Brooks Grocery - Tupelo MS

Brooks Grocery — Tupelo, MS

Building a grocery store from the ground up is a different challenge than a remodel. Where a retrofit involves a known space and an existing team, a new build requires coordinating across multiple trades and project stakeholders from the start. Communication has to be precise, documentation has to be thorough, and the lighting package has to be designed and specified well before anyone sets foot on the sales floor. That was the assignment at Brooks Grocery's Tupelo, Mississippi location, a 25,000 square foot new build where JLH Lighting was brought in to design and supply the complete interior lighting package.

The central challenge on this project was value engineering. The goal was not to find the cheapest fixtures that would pass specification, but to find the best possible lighting outcome within a defined budget. That required a thorough evaluation of every application in the store, identifying where performance mattered most and making deliberate decisions about where to invest and where to optimize. The result is a store where the lighting punches well above its budget, with Luxco fixtures anchoring the package across the primary sales floor applications.

The experience left an impression on the project team. Brooks Grocery owner Brooks Davis called Nick Jordan "the real deal," and the electrical contractor on the project noted they had never received the level of detail and precision from any other lighting company they had worked with. That kind of feedback reflects what value engineering done right actually looks like: not cutting corners, but making every dollar work harder.

Testimonial

“In the process of constructing a new from-the-ground-up 24,000 square ft. for our 3rd Brooks Grocery location,  — we were clueless on what to do. For us, this was all new as our first 2 stores were acquisitions .  Thankfully, I was introduced to Nick Jordan with JLH Lighting through our interior and architectural design team, Clear Brand. Nick was instrumental in the design of our lighting package. Our electrical contractor said “in the future, we would love the opportunity to work with them on many more projects even if it is not related to the grocery industry as we have never received quite the details and what we exactly needed from any other lighting company before.”

“Nick Jordan is the real deal.”
